Sathya Sai trust to adopt 60 children and provide them free
education
PUTTAPARTHI: Moved by media reports
that a widow poisoned her three children before committing suicide
due to abject poverty near Puttaparthi a few months ago, Sri
Sathya Sai Central Trust have launched Sathya Sai Deena
Janoddharana Pathakam recently.
Under the scheme, the Trust officials have identified and adopted
60 orphan and poor children in residing in Puttaparthi,
Bukkapatnam and Kothacheruvu mandals. They have been admitted to
the various education institutions managed by the Trust and would
be provided with free education upto post-graduation level.
Announcing this during the 21st convocation of the Sri Sathya Sai
Institute of Higher Learning here, Sri Sathya Sai Baba donated Rs
1 lakh to each student, which would be deposited in a bank and
handed over to them with interest after their studies.
To meet this commitment, Sai Baba handed over a cheque for Rs 60
lakh to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, a former IAS officer, who is
in-charge of the scheme.
In the course of his address, Sai Baba said that when someone
enquired him about his properties he had replied that children
were his wealth, and then turned towards the large gathering of
students sitting in the aesthetically-decorated Sai Kulwanth Hall.
The devotees applauded loudly. "The students should take this an
example and emulate me by helping the poor and needy," Sai Baba
added.
