| Puttaparthy: The
76th birthday celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba began in
Wednesday with a two-day world conference of teachers and
principals of the Sri Sathya Sai Schools from 20 countries. It
is being attended by 400 teachers and observers. The Sai schools
integrate formal education with moral values and spirituality.
Dr Artong Jumsai, director of the Sai school at Thailand said,
it was an occasion for everyone to create a link between the
different schools. Sri Sathya Sai
Baba addressed the delegates and called on them to mould the
characters of students. "you have to follow their conduct
carefully and help instil human values in them," he said,
regretting the fact that in most cases of children going astray,
it was the parents who were responsible.
Baba differentiated education from Educare.
Education is what you get from outside and Educare is what you
learn from within yourself, he explained. Education should be
brought out of Educare. Baba lauded the efforts of women
teachers affiliated to the Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas programme.
Bal Vikas, conducted worldwide, is a programme aimed at
inculcating human and moral values in children. Baba said there
is only one religion - love; and only one caste - humanity.
The celebrations this year are relatively
low key and Baba has insisted that social welfare projects are
more in need today. Puttaparthy however, is choked with the
crowds that gather for the celebrations this time every year.
The ashram sources estimate around a lakh and a half to attend
the Baba's birthday on the 23rd. |
