THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE BY BHAGAWAN SRI SATHYA SAI BABA

Mothers are the makers of a nation’s fortune or misfortune; for they shape
the sinews of its souls.

As the mother, so the progress of the nation; as the mother so the sweetness
of the culture.

A mother is God’s nursemaid and the duty of a mother to her children is
God's Grace and this Grace is God's monthly salary to her.

STORY FOR THIS WEEK

THE PURNAVATARAS

According to the Indian conception, the Lord Vishnu has so far descended
incarnate in nine forms, UNTIL THE CURRENT SHRI SATYA SAI BABA THE
YUGAVATARA.

8. KRISHNA

The Purnavatara the perfect total incarnation. Rama had led down the
tradition of an ideal king, prepared to suffer for the promises made by his
weakminded father or for his notion of respecting the will of his people.
Krishna went a step further and upheld the path of discriminating between
good and bad. Had he lived in Rama’s days, he would have persuaded both
Dasharatha and Kaikeyi to see reason and if necessary would have imprisioned
the maiden Manthara or killed her.

He was born to Vasudeva a Yadav noble-man and Devaki the princess from the
family of the Vrishnis allied to the Yadavas by a bond of family kinship.

He had a charismatic personality. He was handsome to the extreme and of
superlative bodily strength. He was versed in the Vedic lore and was born a
person with all his desires already fulfilled (Aptakama)

In his times, though the kings and the other leaders were out wardly showing
allegiance to the Vedic way of life, yet inwardly they were men of demonic
instinct. To name a few, Jarasandha was a mighty Magadha King who had
conquered and put into prision several good rulers of small kingdoms and
principalities. Another was Narakasura in far off Assama. He had captured
16,000 beautiful princessess and put them into his prision and had
established a reign of terror. The others of the same breed were Shishupala,
Duryodhana, Kalayavana and the last but not the least Kamsa his own maternal
uncle, who had imprisoned Krishna’s own mother and father only on suspicion.
He had usurped the throne of Mathura by impriosoning his own father
Ugarasena and was harassing the neighbourhood localities like Vrindavana and
Gokula.

Krishna was born in Kamsa’s prison and was stealthily taken to Gokula where
Vasudeva’s friend Nanda was the Chieftan. Krishna was brought up by Nanda
and Yashoda the couple renowned for their generosity and noble character.

Even as a boy Krishna organised the defence of Gokula efficiently with his
playmates the cowherd boys. He killed many evil-oers around and taught the
people around to develop self confidence in protecting their self interest.
His marvellous feat was to create shelter in the cavities of the Govardhan
mountain when Gokula was flooded by torrential rain and thunder. He replaced
the Vedic Indra worship by the worship of the Govardhana mountain their
proven shelter in their hour of need. As Gokula had insufficient land space
for their expansive cultivation to feed their cattle and men, he colonised
the nearby Vrindavana. When he divined that Kaliya the mighty serpent in the
river Yamuna was polluting the water of Yamuna and thus many of the cows of
the cowherds were dying, he saw to it that the serpents in the river were
disturbed. When they surfaced they were killed. The people around thanked
him for his superhuman efforts.

Krishna thereafter entered Mathura at the invitation of Kamsa his maternal
uncle and the King to witness a wrestling match. When he discovered Kamsa’s
plot to kill him and his elder brother Balarama, he brought him down from
his throne and killed him in a straight fight.

His exploits to kill Kalayavana, Jarasandha, Narakasura and Shishupala are
too well known. He played a very significant role in organising the Bharata
war and annihilating the wicked Duryodhana and his henchmen who had grabbed
Kingdom of Dharmaraja the righteousness incarnate.

In all these, he never sought any position of power for himself. He,
however, ruled the hearts of men by superhuman and well organised efforts to
establish the supremacy of righteousness, piety, humility and brain power
over the wicked who believed in muscle power to perpetuate their
hegemonistic rule.

He was not a stickler for observing the rules of the game when the other
party was flouting them brazenly. In Dronaparva, Mahabharata, he declared
and exhorted the Pandavas to abandon these rules in killing Drona:
Asthiyatam jaye yogah dharmam utsrajya Pandavah, Oh! Pandavas, if you do not
kill Drona by apparently unfair means, then the victory of our righteous
cause would suffer. He also suggested to Arjuna to take advantage of the
difficulties in which Karna the mighty warrior deeds, was enmeshed, and kill
him.

He had the guts and stature to break the rules of war when this proved
inevitable to establish the rule of righteousness. He was prepared to break
the traditions if they came in the smooth working of the society carrying
out its progress on the path of righteousness.

When he knew that Bhishma had vowed not to fight against a woman, he
directed the Pandavas to kill him by putting up Shikhandi an eunuch to fight
with him. When Bhishma stopped issuing his arrows against him the Pandavas
from behind Shikhandi accomplished their job in demolishing him.

In fact Bhishma and Drona undoubtedly brave and great souls in themselves,
were the cause of allowing Duryodhana in indulging in his nefarious
activities. Their false sense of duty culminated in that fierce Bharata war.
If injustice is to triumph, all talk of justice and fairplay is an
unmitigated evil.

Krishna’s Gita is a monumental gift of his to mankind. He exhorts all to
fight injustice and follow the path of righteousness. Krishna is LOVE
incarnate. He is God. God has also to fight to establish the rule of LOVE.
